We are way too obsessed with protein!
A review of causes of obesity
Marcus Cook I am so excited about this live stream we’re doing! I will be talking with Marcus Cook, Big to Little, a patient (and friend) who went from 500 lbs down to the low 200’s. He went on to successfully completed 3 Ironman races.
I am sooooo tired of talking about vaccines, but seeing we have a pandemic that is actually getting worse and tons of misinformation, I wanted to do bullet point rebuttals to misinformation since everything else I have posted seems too long.
Bet you didn’t know it is World Vegan Day! Being vegan isn’t easy. The world has changed a lot but it still is difficult to constantly wonder whether I will be able find appropriate food when going out. But I don’t mind the sacrifices.
I feel so grateful to be in a job that allows me to be a part of such wonderful transformations. Melanie has done such an amazing job.
Animal feeding operations look so benign when you drive by. Most, especially cattle, are very well hidden. As Paul McCartney said, “If slaughterhouses had glass walls we would all be vegetarians.”
Reading Michael Greger, MD new book, How Not To Diet, and he has a very important quote in the book: “So the prime cause for obesity is neither gluttony nor sloth. Obesity may be a normal response to an abnormal environment.”
The Origins of Infectious Disease Want to create a breeding ground for disease? Nothing could be better than a Controlled Animal Feeding Operation (CAFO). COVID 19 is a zoonotic disease, meaning it originated from animals and host hops to humans.
I often hear people say that the proof in a plant based diet rests solely in epidemiology. As I always say, just because you don’t know the literature doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist.
I was talking with Robby Barbaro, MPH @mindfuldiabeticrobby and Dr. Cyrus Khambatta @mangomannutrition this morning. We were laughing about the fact that I have patients and employees loving their book and seeing real changes.
I keep seeing posts that suggest that a calorie is a calorie. As if consuming 150 calories from a Twinkie or an apple your body will have the same response. When it comes to weight that may be true.
Vera came to see me for surgery due to diabetes and weight. She was very concerned about surgery. We discussed diet in detail. She has adopted a vegan lifestyle and is eating large amounts of fruits and veggies.
This guy can seriously cook. Went to a conference where Mark made all the meals, and incredible does not begin to describe the culinary experience. If the whole world had Mark as their chef, I would be out of business.
Diabetes can be reversed with diet, and NOT the low carbohydrate diets that are being prescribed. Low fat, whole food, plant-based diet works better than any medicine.
The Cochrane Group tries to conduct reliable and non biased research. They concluded that whole grains can definitely help prevent and ameliorate diabetes. What I cannot understand is this anti-carb movement that has overtaken the web.
